Runestone Norway is a Norwegian-owned brand bringing authentic Norse symbolism and rune knowledge to modern apparel, jewellery and home goods.

Our Story

About Runestone Norway

The Norse myths, symbols and sagas are part of the Scandinavian heritage Sonya and Kim André grew up with. Runestone Norway is how they share them: a Norwegian-owned family business founded together and built side by side from their home in Halden, Norway.

Every design is their own, drawn from the histories, myths and symbols of the Norse world. Their mission is to make historically accurate rune and Norse symbol knowledge more accessible — researching each rune and symbol, acknowledging uncertainty, and keeping designs as true to Norse tradition as they can.

The free Rune Library brings together 100+ articles. Interactive tools offer another way to explore: the Birth Rune calculator, Viking name generator, rune translator and Bind Rune Maker.

Ideas for your next story

Story angles we can help with

  • Real runes in an age of AI

Why Viking-age runes are often misrepresented online, how AI-generated fake runes spread, and what to look for when checking a symbol.

  • Two alphabets, different histories

The real history of Elder and Younger Futhark — and why the alphabet most often called ‘Viking runes’ is not always the one Vikings used.

  • Icelandic staves are not Viking-age symbols

How later Icelandic magical staves differ from Viking-age imagery, and why those distinctions matter.

  • Yule and the Northern winter

Norse winter traditions, the historical roots of Yule, and the ways those stories are interpreted today.

  • What does your birth rune say?

Birth runes as a modern symbolic practice: a way into rune meanings, not an ancient Viking horoscope or a prediction of someone’s future.

For expert commentary on runes, Norse symbols and the research behind our designs, email Sonya and Kim André. We can help distinguish historical evidence from modern interpretation.
